Sexy Croque Mounsieur

You know, with the release of everything sexy lately... (Magic Mike, 50 Shades of Grey), I thought I would get your attention with this title.
But you know, doesn't this bread look sexy with those brown curves? It's one of our new favourites. It's a marble rye bread, and it's cut real thin so you can make some nice, delicious sandwiches. This time was a Croque Monsieur. I just take some light cheddar cheese and some ham and but a little butter on the outside and grill it in the pan. It has a pretentious name, but it's real simple and kid friendly.

Croque Monsieur- bien sur!

Try this Croque Monsieur recipe when you need to make a quick and kid friendly dinner.

This is one of our favourites for those busy nights when I have to rush home from work and make dinner and take Melanie to one of her night time activities.

This is what you'll need:
2 slices of healthy whole grain bread ( I use Stonemill Omega 3/Flax seed bread)
2 slices of light cheddar cheese
2 slices of thinly sliced deli ham
2 tsp of butter

Just make it as you would a grilled cheese sandwich, but add the ham in the middle. Serve it with a salad and you have made a dinner with all the food groups!

By the way, have you seen my lovely daughter lately, the day I made this dinner, she had to get all dressed up because she was having a tea party with the Queen at Girl Guides that night (well not the real Queen).

Turkey BBQ Sloppy Joes- Champion dinner

This is a Champion dinner because 1- Brent can make it quick on those busy weeknights when I get home from work late and 2- Everyone loves it!!!!I asked Brent to take some ground turkey and BBQ sauce and cook it all with a bit of chopped pepper for crunch. We just serve it with a salad for a delicious dinner without any leftovers.

Turkey BBQ Sloppy Joes (serves 4)

Ingredients:

1lb ground turkey
1/2 cup of your favourite BBQ sauce
1/2 sweet pepper chopped fine
4 whole wheat hamburger buns

Directions:
Brown your turkey meat, add salt and pepper to taste, once it is no longer pink, add the chopped peppers and the BBQ sauce to the pan and cook for a few more minutes until the sauce has warmed through.
Warm your buns and then spoon 1/4 of the mixture onto the bun. That's all!

Grown Up Grilled Cheese

Apple, Turkey and Cheddar Grillers (adapted from www.besthealthmag.ca/recipe/apple-turkey-and-cheddar-grillers)

This is definitely a 'Grown up Grilled Cheese'. Thin slices of Granny Smith apple, layers of turkey and cheddar cheese make a wholesome and delicious meal good for on the go families.
Ingreditents: (for 1 sandwhich)
2 teaspoons butter
2 slices whole-grain bread, such as Stonemill Golden Flax Bread
2 thin slices of cheddar cheese (I would use light cheddar next time)
1 slice extra lean roasted turkey breast
2 thin slices of Granny Smith apple
 Directions:
Spread 1 tsp of the butter over one side of each of the slices of bread. Arrange one slice of bread, buttered side down. Top with one slice of cheese, apple slices, turkey and remaining slice of cheese. Cover with second slice of bread, buttered side out.
Heat dry skillet over medium heat. Place apple, turkey and Cheddar sandwich in skillet and cook until golden brown and toasted on each side and cheese is melted, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Slice and serve. For a complete meal, I served it with a Spring Mix Salad with Fig Balsamic Vinaigrette.
