This is what girls at my house do on Superbowl Sunday- Apple Nachos

Like I mentioned before, I am not much for watching the big game or the day long of  'Pre-Game' Show. So Melanie, my sister and I went shopping and then came back home to do some crafting. But the 'piece de resistance' was our fantastic Apple Nachos.

Yup, went to Ardene and stocked up on Flip Flops, Melanie convinced me that it wasn't too early, "They are only $10 for 5 pairs Mom!"

Then the Flip Flops went for a walk...

And there is my gorgeous sister, she is beautiful at 7 1/2 months pregnant! I guess the only crafty part of this is that she has a tree/baby growing in her belly... and that is pretty crafty and creative, let me tell you!

Melanie put nice accessories in her and her doll's hair!

This was my craft. I saw this Pin on Pinterest, what a great idea. Szos, my coach gave me this as my homework this week. It's a great visual to see the progress you have accomplished on your weight loss journey. One jar contains Pounds to Lose and the other, Pounds Lost, Yeah!

Melanie made cups for herself too. But she was alot more creative with the sticky letters. LOL, ROFL, I Love Katy Perry, Rihanna... LMFAO, I'm sexy and I kow it! I say, "Whatever motivates you Mella'!

And now here they are.... I know you had to read all through the stuff that girls do at my house on Superbowl Sunday, but it was worth it, right? .... Apple Nachos. Wow, did I impress the pants off of Brent and Melanie. Not only do these look impressive but they are filled with good for you ingredients. The best ever Superbowl Desert!

Ingredients:
3 crispy and slightly tart apples (we honeycrisp! yum…)
1 tsp lemon juice
3 tbsp creamy natural peanut butter
1/4 cup sliced almonds
1/4 cup pecans
1/4 cup flaked unsweetened coconut
1/4 cup dark chocolate chips
For these, I sliced up some apples thin enough so it would be easy to eat the slice in one or two bites. I also lightly spritzed the apples with lemon juice to keep them from browning too fast.
Then I melted some peanut butter–until it was super runny–and drizzled it all over the apples. Next, I topped the apples and peanut butter with unsweetened flaked coconut, sliced almonds, a few pecans and, of course, chocolate chips. And finally, I drizzled a little more peanut butter onto the plate.
Couldn’t get much easier! Be sure to eat these with your hands, just like real nachos. :)

Superbowl Chili and things

For the big day, it's our tradition to make some chili. This year was no different... I made it in our new crockpot and it turned out nice and spicy... no beans please though (Melanie and I don't like them).

Superbowl Chili

Here's my recipe:

1lb of extra lean ground beef
1 onion chopped
28 oz can of chopped/seasoned tomatoes
28 oz can of tomato sauce
1/2 green and half a red pepper chopped
chili powder or cayenne pepper and sweet chili and peppers seasoning

Brown the beef in a pan with the onions, add some chili powder or other seasonings to your liking... about 2 Tbsp. Add the cooked beef, tomatoes, sauce and peppers to the crockpot. Add a bit more chili powder, salt and pepper to taste. Cook on low for about 7-8 hours. I serve it with about a 2 Tbsp of shredded low fat cheddar cheese.

Nutrional Information: (serves 7 people, about 1.5 cups per serving)

182 calories, 10g carb, 8g fat, 17g protein, 2g fibre, 5g sugar

This is what I like to serve the chili with. Tortilla chips. I found these at the Organic Garage. They pretty much contain only real ingredients : White corn, sunflower oil/and or corn oil, salt. That's it!
Here's the Dets...
When I was at Whole Foods, I was looking at their baked goods to see what I could get that would be a nice treat with the Chili. You have to be careful, some items contain bad fats and things... so read the ingredients... But I did find the giant Pretzel Twists, delicious!

And these Challah Cheese Rolls.... a nice treat- not a low fat option, but a nice addition to the chili for the Superbowl- it's about 200 calories per roll, but with the chili being pretty low in calories- it works out. Even though I just watched the Half-Time Show with Madonna... I still participated in the Superbowl.

It was a Great Super Bowl Weekend!

Although I am 'soooo' not into watching sports on TV, my husband loves it. It's like me and the Food Network, it's the first thing he turns on!  So this past weekend, as you may know, was the Superbowl. I was in the neighbourhood of a Whole Foods and I knew I wanted to get a little treat this weekend for my family.  Well, check out what I stumbled upon...

FOOTBALL CUPCAKES!!!!

First of all, the price was incredible. These cupcakes were delicious, and the ingredients were pretty much 'clean'- not 100%, but close. And I couldn't resist the cuteness of the footballs, it was a treat.

I bought, a chocolate, a vanilla and another chocolate with chocolate icing for me. They fought for the vanilla cupcake...who fights for vanilla???? Oh yeah, my friend Sam would!  But anyways, mine was delicious, I think it was made in heaven, it was sooooooooo decadent. The chocolate was so deep and dark it was wowarrific! Okay, so when I went to log it onto myfitnesspal.com, I found out it was 420 calories, but I had a very light lunch and nice dinner, so it all worked itself into my daily calorie limit. But let me tell you, the next morning I woke up starving. It was 420 very empty calories, you know, sugar and white flour and butter and sour cream.

I did some food styling here. Brent had the Patriots and Giants hats and so it was an ode to food and football. He wanted the Patriots to win, and is very supersticious about wearing the right shirts and not getting it dirty.... so don't tell him, but I think the Patriots lost because I got icing on his Patriots hat and just wipped it off.
